Iranian Filmfest in Cologne showcases 2 Iran docs by 1 director

Iranian Film Festival in German city of Cologne is to screen Iran films ‘Bakhtak’ (Strangling Nightmare) and ‘Bruise’.

Iranian Film Festival in German city of Cologne is to show Iran docs ‘Bakhtak’ (Strangling Nightmare) and ‘Bruise’ both directed by Mohammad Kart.

Documentary filmmaker Kart was born in 1987 in Shiraz, Iran. After studying directing and acting he gained recognition and awards for various theatre roles. His debut documentary film “Bruise” was awarded in many film events, including at the Tehran-based Cinema Verite, Iran International Documentary Film Festival.

‘Bakhtak’ films three women of different age in unfavorable conditions. Their partners ran away. “Kart does not portrait their misery but tells a story of aspiration, passions, and hopes,” a review for the doc read.

The 4th Iranian Filmfest takes place from May 24 to May 28, 2017. The venue for the festival will be at Filmforum NRW in Museum Ludwig.

According to the festival website, the event focuses on multi-facetted aspects of Iran and Iranian cinema. It also promotes up-and-coming as well as established Iranian film makers, fostering a direct exchange among the filmmakers from Iran and the audience in Cologne.

A plot summary for ‘Bruise’ reads, “The true story of a youth gang in Shiraz, a historical city in Iran, which beautifully and poetically depicts the people of a poor neighborhood who are trapped in the vicious circle of violence, ignorance and superstitions.”
